Intuitive Office

Modeled after Data General's CEO, Intuitive Office is an integrated office automation product for open systems. There are three basic components of Intuitive Office:

a user-friendly and fully functional mail system;
time management tools to help users manage their days; and
a document management system that insulates users from the intricacies of the UNIX filing system.

Open systems dilemma

Open systems provide the level of performance, lowered maintenance costs, and cross-platform connectivity companies need to compete in today's business environment. But the wide range of UNIX tools available to reach maximum performance can require skills beyond the average user.

Intuitive Office is the solution to this accessibility problem. IO has the ability to integrate third-party software products, creating one complete solution for your company.

IO-Connection Integration

To make your office even more compatible, Windows and DOS PCs can be integrated with Intuitive Office using Intuitive Office-Connection. IO-Connection uses terminal emulators to provide features not otherwise available on standard character-based terminals. With IO-Connection, you can create/edit documents with PC applications, and store the documents in the Intuitive Office filling system. This allows you to:

associate more descriptive information with each PC document;
search for PC documents based on keywords;
store PC files in the drawer/folder/document structure;
provide security for PC files on a per-user basis; and
make the PC files available to terminal users.

The obvious choice

Intuitive Office stores documents the same way you would in a traditional paper office filing system: cabinet, drawer, folder, document...and wastebasket!

Intuitive Office's menu system is easy to user and includes:

A status line which continuously updates with mail, time and reminder information.
An interrupt feature to access functions with a single keystroke no matter where you are in Intuitive Office.
User commands that perform repetitive operations with only a few keystrokes, and that can be individualized, making them accessible to selected users or to the entire user group.
Application integration that allows third-party or home-grown applications to work in conjunction with Intuitive Office, allowing you to run other applications without leaving Intuitive Office.
Customization that provides great flexibility for the system manager and for users. Intuitive Office can be customized in three areas:
- User profiles that allow system managers to determine what features should be available to each user.
- Personal profiles that let users determine which functions they want; and
- Survey management that allows users to customize their information displays.

Recoverablility

Intuitive Office is built on the Transaction-Based-Access-Method (TBAM) data manager. One of TBAM's greatest strengths is its recoverability. If your system crashes, your Intuitive Office data is safe: the TBAM data manager can automatically recover the database if it becomes corrupt.

Search and define

Intuitive Office stores documents the same way you would in a traditional office. Users don't have to work with UNIX pathnames and their limitations, case sensitivity issues, and inflexibility of file permissions. Intuitive Office document management features include:

Filing security at the drawer level, that can be set on a per-user basis.
Document summaries with information such as typist, author, subject, summary, and comments.
Keyword search capability so you can search for documents by keywords at the cabinet, drawer, or folder level.
The ability to create document types. If you want to create a WordPerfect document, enter WPD in the document creation menu; you don't need to know how to launch the application or give a pathname to a file.
Import/Export options to store any type of file in the IO filing system.

Don't forget

Intuitive Office allows you to set reminders which will notify you of upcoming events. You can set reminders at various time intervals (daily, weekly, monthly).

Flexible mailing

Intuitive Office's inbox is where all mail messages are stored. From the inbox, you can view, print, delete, or file messages. The wastebasket holds messages for a designated time, so they can be restored if necessary. Intuitive Office mailing capabilities include:

UNIX mail interoperablity, allowing you to mail messages and files directly to other IO users as well as to users who are using a UNIX mailer.
Message options to send many types of mail, including Urgent, Certified, Confidential, Eyes Only, Reply, Forward.
Personal aliases which are abbreviations for mail addresses.
Mailing lists to send the same message to groups of people identified by one name.
Customizable directories of users for your system as well as other Intuitive Office and mail systems.
The ability to send attachments such as documents, folders, UNIX files, or user commands.
A message editor that allows text wrapping and basic text editing functions.
Messages may be hundreds of lines, allowing ample room to communicate.

Point and click

When you add the IO-Connection component to Intuitive Office, four powerful new features are available for PC terminal emulation users. With each of these features, the user can access a Windows file menu and complete the task with the point and click method (emulator must support this function).

Import a file from the PC into the Intuitive Office filing system, including a summary and associated keywords.
Export a document from the Intuitive Office filing system to a PC. You can choose to automatically launch the PC application associated with the file.
Mail a PC file via the Intuitive Office mail system.
File a mailed document to a PC from your Intuitive Office inbox. You can also choose to automatically launch the PC application associated with the file.

If you are currently using CEO, and you want to move to an open systems office automation solutions, Intuitive Office provides... lower cost and more options.

Intuitive Office is virtually keystroke-for-keystroke compatible with CEO. This translates into significant savings in time and money for retraining. Intuitive Office allows you to use your existing equipment, increasing the financial gain. By moving to an open systems solution you can choose from a wider variety of software applications. You will still have an office automation package familiar to your users, but with even more features for efficiency and productivity. Intuitive Office-Connection provides additional customizations for certain terminal emulators based on the capabilities of the emulators. The customizations include toolbars, keymaps, and menu bars, all of which allow tighter PC integration with Intuitive Office.
